Victorian Thread Wagon

5x7 (5.22" x 6.26") Hoop:  $20

I saw this "Thread Wagon" in one of my ladies' fancywork books from the 1800's. I thought it was such a clever idea and since I like to do a little hand stitching in the evenings, I had to have a few of these handy little thread keepers.  Of course, I had to do an updated version "in-the-hoop".   The ribbon is threaded though the center of the spools.  So the spools are secure yet the thread can be pulled of and the needle threaded without taking the spool out of the holder.  Plus, since they're quilted, I can also use it as a pin cushion and even tuck a little pair of scissors into the "wagon".  They are just so handy for when you want to do a little hand sewing and traveling.  I love them and I think they'll make a perfect gift for anyone who sews!

The first sample with the flowers was made with unbleached muslin. I wanted to have a little fun with the second sample so I used some fun fabric and skipped the flower. 

Each thread wagon will hold three spools of thread.  I've used the 250 and 500 meter size Gutermann thread.  The spool sizes can be mixed in each thread wagon.  Please be sure to check the stitch area of your 5x7 hoop.  The actual size is 5.22" wide and 6.26" tall.

Victorian Lamp Mats

Your choice of 5x5, 6x6 or 8x8 sizes:  $10

These lamp mats are historically accurate machine embroidery renditions of The Modern Priscilla pattern number 3226 published in May 1892.  The original pattern size is 12" x 12" but since I don't have a 12x12 hoop, I made them in 5x5, 6x6 and 8x8 sizes.  I know it's not exactly what the Victorian ladies of 1892 had in mind but it works for us! As you can see, the lamp mats can be used for so much more than lamps!

The designs are digitized using a two color backstitch so you can choose to do the veins in the leafs or not.  The 5x5 size does not have the veins in the inner leaves.  It was just too much for such a small area. 

Of course you don't have to make a lamp mat.  There are endless possibilities for this design.  You can use the design on pre-made doilies, table runners, tote bags, a pillow with initials in the middle, a quilt square with a name and date; just to name a few.

These cute little I Spy toys are very easy to make in the hoop then fill them with little buttons, charms or scrapbook embellishments and poly pellets then slipstitch the opening closed.  Not intended for children under 4years of age since they do have small pieces!

The Mini Prim Wall Hangings are all made in the hoop.  Only the hanging tabs are not made in the hoop.  I just took some left over scraps and made the tabs then attached them to the wall hanging in the final step during the embroidery or just use ribbon for the tabs.

You can make your own little mini primitive wall hanging with just one fat quarter and a couple of scraps of solid fabric for the embroidery.

In the Hoop Towel Toppers

Towel Toppers for family. 

These cute towel toppers are made completely in the hoop.  They have a finished back so you won't see the embroidery or the top of the towel and even the Velcro is sewn on the towel topper in the hoop.  You'll just have to cut your towel, stitch the top and sew on the other side of the Velcro.  The set comes with a PDF file with complete instructions and photographs of each step.

Valentine Sweetheart Candy Sayings Hanger

This In-the-Hoop Valentine Sweetheart Sayings project is very easy and very fast to make

The main heart that the little pillow hearts hang from is not stuffed.  I used a layer of batting just to give it a little dimension.

The little hanging heart pillows are stuffed with fiberfill and slipstitched closed.  The ribbons are added in the hoop so all you have to do is thread them through the hanger heart and knot them in the back. 

These cute little heart pillows would also make great package ties for your valentine day presents!

In-the-Hoop Dog Toys

My daughter was home for Christmas with her little Min Pin, Belker.  So you know grandma just had to make him some presents.  Only problem was I couldn't even get them wrapped.  As soon as I got up from my sewing chair he made himself at home with his new bone.

The big boy was made on my Babylock EMP6 (7x11 Hoop) and the little one was made on my Bernina 180 (5x7 hoop).
